Adults and Seniors

In addition to maintaining general collections of library materials of interest to all adult library users, the Polk County Library has made a concerted effort in recent years to address the special needs of adults with basic literacy needs or who are learning English for the first time.

The library has also attempted recently to focus attention on materials and services which are designed specifically to meet the special needs of persons over the age of 55, a segment of our county’s population accounting for over one third of the total county population. Through our Senior Collection, we seek to serve the needs of active older adults who still have good health and are pursuing a good quality of life in their senior years. We also have included materials to address the needs of those within the senior population with declining health and special needs: those with low vision, hearing impairments, and other physical disabilities.

Please visit the library to discover the special services, programs, and materials the Polk County Public Library has to offer for special populations of adults and senior adults within our community, including:

Adult Literacy Center
Basic Education Materials and Services
ESL Materials and Services
Senior Resource Center
Life Enrichment Center
Assistive Technology Center
