Freegal is a free service that allows three downloads per week of any title produced on a Sony Music Label. All you need is your library card number and pin number. If you do not know or have a pin number, call the Circulation desk at 828-894-8721 ext 221.

Position Open: Technical Services Assistant. This is a full-time permanent position with benefits. Scheduled hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 to 5:00 with occasional weekend work. Duties include cataloging, acquisitions, bookkeeping, computer support and general office duties. The Friends of the Polk County Public Library will be featuring the following books during June’s Silent Auction:

- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J. K. Rowling. First American Edition – October 1998.
- Jack London’s The Call of the Wild, White Fang, and The Sea-Wolf (three books in one). Octopus Books – Like New.
- True at First Light – A Fictional Memoir by Ernest Hemingway. His last unpublished work – was edited by his son,
Patrick Hemingway.

Come by the Columbus library to see the books and place a bid!

The Friends of the PCPL will be featuring the following books during May’s Silent Auction at the Columbus library:

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (leather-bound and published by Easton Press);

Dream Homes Carolinas – Showcase of the Carolina’s Finest Architects, Designers and Builders; and,

The Presidents of the United States by John and Alice Durant (commemorative edition – two volumes in slipcase).

Friends of the Library Silent Auction

The books being featured for the month of April are Hyperion Miniatures: “El Greco” by Marc Loge, Cervantes “Novelas ejemplares”, and a set of five French Art books (1951-53) – de Vinci, Goya, Delacroix, Van Gogh and Cezanne. The items are on display in the lobby of the Columbus library. Bidding will end on April 30.

National Library Week, April 10-16

Libraries are places for new beginnings. Whether you are getting your first library card, learning new computer skills or planning a trip, the library is the place where your story begins. This National Library Week, join our nation’s libraries and librarians and create your own story @ your library.

Our library will proudly display balloons and flowers to create a celebratory atmosphere. A special library-themed story time will be held by Miss Joy and our bookmobile will have an “open house.” School children will be encouraged to make a special trip to the library this week. Both our Saluda and Columbus locations will be displaying new promotions, resources, DVD and book acquisitions. Our helpful staff will be at the ready to answer your questions.

“Every day, libraries across the country are helping people create their own unique stories,” says, Tracey Daniels, Community Relations Specialist for the PCPL. “Whether it is by opening a book and exploring distant lands, or by learning how to use new technologies to find a job, people at our library are creating new stories for themselves.”

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.
