Summer Reading Continues at Polk County Public Library

COLUMBUS, N.C., (July 21, 2015) – Polk County Public Library’s 2015 Summer Reading program continues through August for youth ages 0-18. Over 200 have already signed up and there’s still time to read and earn prizes! Reading logs can be turned in until August 21 and grand prize drawing winners will be announced on August 24. Kids can enter to win Green River Adventures rafting tickets, Wilderness Cove tubing tickets, or one of three fun prize packs. Teens (rising 6th-12th graders) can enter to win a Kindle Fire HD 7 or The Gorge ziplining tickets.

Upcoming children’s events include Superhero Costume Creation on July 28, Marcie the Balloon Fairy on August 4, Superhero Training Academy on August 5, a stuffed animal sleepover on August 17, and a Pajama Party Breakfast on August 18.

The National Teen Lock-In is on Friday, July 31 from 7-11pm. Teens will get to “take over” the library after hours, with special activities such as a photo scavenger hunt, Minute To Win It contests, crafts, games, and plenty of food and fun. There will also be a movie matinee of Insurgent on August 10 and Teen Book Club meets on the fourth Monday of every month.

The 2015 Summer Reading program is sponsored by the Friends of the Polk County Public Library, Polk County Community Foundation, Womens Club of Saluda, New View Realty, Green River Adventures, The Gorge Zipline, Feagan Law Firm, Autumn Care, Green River BBQ, Chimney Rock State Park, PRO Physical Therapy, St. Luke’s Hospital, Thompson’s Store, Wilderness Cove Tubing and Campground, and Wildflour Bakery.

Polk County Public Library has a Main Library in Columbus and a branch in Saluda, as well as a bookmobile that travels throughout Polk County. PCPL offers books, movies, music, audiobooks, and downloadable ebooks and audiobooks, as well as public computers and wireless Internet access.
