A Successful Summer at Polk County Public Library

COLUMBUS, N. C., (September 13, 2016) – The Summer Reading Program at Polk County Public Library was a huge success this year! There were many fun and well-attended children’s and teen events centered around gaming and sports. Compared to last year, participation rose ten percent. Over 100,000 minutes of reading were recorded in two months. The Friends of the Polk County Public Library group donated $1 to the Foothills Humane Society for every 5 hours of reading that kids and teens logged.

We want to thank the families who participated and the generous individuals and businesses who volunteered their time and donated gifts to make this program possible, including Feagan Law Firm, The Gorge, Wilderness Cove Tubing, Chimney Rock, Bi-Lo, Bojangles, Purrrfect Bark, Landrum Veterinary Hospital, Entegra Bank, The Purple Onion, PRO Physical Therapy, Polk County Recreation Department, and Edney Orthodontics. Please visit these local organizations and let them know that you appreciate their support of the library, our community, and Polk County’s youth.

Fun at the library is back in full swing this fall! Check out www.polklibrary.org for a full schedule including storytimes, children’s events, Teen Scene for middle and high schoolers, and programs such as author visits and craft and computer classes for adults.

Polk County Public Library has a Main Library in Columbus and a branch in Saluda, as well as outreach services. PCPL offers books, movies, music, audiobooks, and downloadable eBooks and audiobooks, as well as public computers and wireless internet access.
