The Polk County Public Library is for teens! Check back often… This is the place to come for information about young adult programs, new materials, and more. You can also like us on Facebook!

2014 Summer Reading Program

Online registration for our 2014 Summer Reading Program is now open! Click here to sign up. After you’ve registered, pick up your goody bag and BINGO card from Jen, Youth Services Librarian (in the Children’s Area) at the Main Library or the front desk of the Saluda Community Library. You can enter to win one of the grand prizes every time you mark off 5 in a row on your BINGO card (up to 12 times total). The grand prizes a $35 Amazon gift card and (as determined by members of the Teen Book Club) a swag bag full of memorabilia from your favorite series and authors such as Dr. Who, Sherlock, Game of Thrones, Divergent, Marvel, John Green, and Supernatural. The grand prize drawings will be held at Teen Night on August 21. You do not have to be present to win!

Teen Book Club

The club meets on the third Thursday of every month at 4pm. For our August book, we’re reading The Maze Runner by James Dasher. Come to the meeting on August 21 to discuss and you’ll also get a free copy of September’s book.

Teen Craft Night

Stick around after book club on August 21 (or come even if you aren’t in the book club) for earring making at 5pm. Local jewelry artist Julie Arrington will demonstrate how to make earrings and assist teens in creating their designs. All materials will be provided! Teens who wish to attend this event must register in advance.

Friday, August 1
7-11pm: Teens Take Over!
Come take over the library after hours! This event is part of 2014 National Teen Lock-In, so we’ll be competing against other libraries to win the photo scavenger hunt and Minute To Win It competition. We’ll also have pizza, make your own ice cream sundaes, and crafts! Plus a late night virtual chat with Marissa Meyer, author of The Lunar Chronicles series. Teens who wish to attend this event must register in advance and have a signed permission slip from a parent/guardian.

Tuesday, August 12
2-5pm: Divergent Party & Movie Matinee

Come dressed in your favorite faction’s colors for a costume contest, crafts, food, and of course the movie (based on the best-selling young adult novel by Veronica Roth)!
