Free kids events at Columbus Library in July
COLUMBUS, N. C., (June 25, 2026) There will be several free events for children and families at Columbus Library in July, sponsored by the Friends of the Polk County Public Libraries.
On Thursday, July 2nd at 2pm, Shepherd Shakespeare Company will present “DinoShakes,” a hilarious one-man show! Mistakenly thrust back in time, Will Shakespeare must survive using only his sharp wit and imagination. Are his stories enough to save him, or will he end up as a T-Rex’s dinner? This show is a riotous Jurassic romp through some of Shakespeare’s incredible stories.
Jennifer Armstrong will present “Get Down Underground” on Thursday, July 9th at 2pm. Jennifer is a singer, storyteller, piper, and poet. In this lively and participatory program, we will enjoy songs and stories set to the fiddle and banjo!
On Wednesday, July 22nd at 10:30am, join us for a special storytime with children’s book author and illustrator Alice Feagan, who is a Polk County native! She will share her newest book, The Lost Board, about a young girl who learns that sometimes letting go is part of the journey when her family’s surfboard creates memories with a new rider. Storytime is designed for ages 2-5.
April C. Turner will present “Dancing Stories” on Thursday, July 23rd at 2pm. This fun, high-energy, inspiring journey through traditional West African culture combines stories, songs, and dances.
Don’t forget to sign up for the 2026 Summer Learning Program at Columbus Library or Saluda Library! The learning incentive program runs through August 2nd. Kids and teens can set and achieve two learning goals each week to earn brag tags, entries into the grand prize drawings, and donations to local organizations on their behalf. Adults can complete challenges to earn a prize (socks, a tote bag, or a mug, while supplies last) and entries into the grand prize drawings. Visit polklibrary.org/slp2026 to learn more.
Polk County Public Libraries has two libraries, Columbus Library and Saluda Library, with books, movies, music, audiobooks, and downloadable ebooks and audiobooks available for checkout, as well as public computers and wireless internet access.
