Learn about incredible insects at Saluda Library

COLUMBUS, N. C., (August 12, 2025) Join Polk County Public Libraries for an educational program with the North Carolina Arboretum on Tuesday, August 19th at 4pm at Saluda Library. Learn all about the many different insects that call Western North Carolina their home (and some that don’t)! At this program we’ll answer all of our biggest bug questions, learn about the many different types, and go outside to see what insects we can find. We’ll also meet a special bug friend! This program is designed for ages 5-13.

Attendees will also learn more about ecoEXPLORE (Experiences Promoting Learning Outdoors for Research and Education), an incentive-based citizen science program. Developed by The North Carolina Arboretum, this innovative program combines science exploration with kid-friendly technology to foster a fun learning environment for children while encouraging them to explore the outdoors and participate in citizen science. Kids in grades K-8 can become ecoEXPLORERs and share wildlife observations to earn points, badges, and prizes.

Polk County Public Libraries has two libraries, Columbus Library and Saluda Library, with books, movies, music, audiobooks, and downloadable ebooks and audiobooks available for checkout, as well as public computers and wireless internet access. PCPL also offers regularly scheduled programs for all ages. To learn more, visit www.polklibrary.org.
