Freshwater Mussels of the Western Carolinas presentation at Saluda Library

SALUDA, N. C., (August 26, 2025) Dive into the captivating world of freshwater mussels found in the mountain and foothill regions of the Carolinas on Tuesday, September 9th at 2pm at Saluda Library. Hans Lohmeyer, freshwater ecologist and Conserving Carolina Stewardship Coordinator, will present this program as we go on a journey through the rivers and streams that serve as the home for these hidden gems. We will unravel their biology, ecology, and pressing conservation concerns. This engaging talk offers a comprehensive overview of these remarkable creatures, exploring their unique life cycle, habitat preferences, and the factors contributing to their alarming decline.

This program series began in 2024 thanks to a grant from the Polk County Community Foundation, and is now made possible due to the continued partnership between Polk County Public Libraries and Conserving Carolina.
