Stearns Park StoryWalk 03/20/2026 , 12:00 AM at Stearns Park Check out the latest book in the Stearns Park StoryWalk®, The Hidden Rainbow by Christie Matheson! All the colors of the rainbow are hidden in the garden, but can the little bee find them—with help from the reader? Spring is brought to life in this interactive picture book about the natural world, and our place within it. The StoryWalk® begins at the playground and continues counter-clockwise on the path around the park. The Hidden Rainbow will be available to read starting March 20th, the first day of spring!

Cooking Up Stories 03/24/2026 , 4:00 PM at PCPL Saluda Cooking Up Stories This program for K-5th graders combines picture books with delicious dishes! Registration required as space is limited. Email jdickenson@polklibrary.org by the Thursday before each session to sign up. Sessions may be cancelled if not enough participants register. Circle of Parents 03/25/2026 , 9:30 AM at PCPL Columbus Circle of Parents This program, led by Partnership for Children of the Foothills, is for parents of children from birth to five years old. Come share the challenges and successes of parenting with other parents just like you, while gaining and sharing useful information and tips on how to strengthen your family. Experienced child care teachers provide on-site age appropriate activities, supervision, and fun (including the weekly library storytime when in session) for children up to five years of age, while parents and guardians are busy in group discussion and activities. Healthy snacks are also provided. Enjoy the support of a network of new friends, while accessing resources that you and your family can use! For more information, email polkcop@pfcfoothills.org.

The 4th week of the month are "A Sprinkle of Spanish" storytimes. Partnership for Children of the Foothills also hold their free Circle of Parents program in the Columbus Library meeting room from 9-11am on Wednesdays!

Columbus Library Join us for an educational program with the North Carolina Arboretum to learn all about the many different plants that call Western North Carolina their home! Ever wondered why some trees lose their leaves in the winter and others don't? Or why almost all plants are green? At this program we'll answer these questions and more. We'll also make DIY plant presses together, go on a plant scavenger hunt, and venture outside to see what's growing! Come ready to hear about the ecoEXPLORE program, find out what makes a plant a plant, how plants make their own food, where different plants can be found, plus much more! This program is designed for ages 5-13.

Community Creations: Coloring Sheet Contest 04/01/2026 , 12:00 AM at PCPL Columbus Community Creations Each quarter, the library offers free kits with supplies to complete a community art project, or a craft that benefits others! April 2026: "Unearth A Story" Coloring Sheet Contest Pick up a kit starting April 1st. Using a black marker on paper, design a coloring sheet template that goes along with the 2026 Summer Learning theme: Unearth a Story (dinosaurs, paleontology, archaeology). Return your completed coloring sheet template (along with the entry form that was in the kit) to the library by Monday, May 4th. The winning coloring sheets from each age category will be distributed to library patrons this summer!
