Spice It Up: Old Bay
05/01/2024 , 12:00 AM

A monthly cooking challenge to spice up your kitchen… Try something new! Each month, pick up a FREE spice sample and simple recipe.

May: Old Bay

This world famous Old Bay seasoning is sweet, spicy, and savory all at once, delivering a unique taste experience fresh from the Chesapeake Bay region. Old Bay perfectly blends 18 quality spices and herbs giving items an authentic and distinctive flavor. No longer used exclusively for seafood, this spice blend enhances everything. Shake over burgers, chicken sandwiches, and chicken tenders; sprinkle on fries and corn-on-the-cob; add a dash on steaming mashed potatoes; or whatever your heart desires!

Recipe: Coleslaw

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 7 cups cabbage, shredded
  • 1 cup carrots, shredded

DIRECTIONS

  1. In a large bowl, mix mayo, vinegar, sugar, and Old Bay until well blended.
  2. Add cabbage and carrots. Toss to coat well then cover.
  3. Refrigerate 2 hours to allow flavors to blend.
  4. Stir before serving. For a little extra “oomph,” add a sprinkle of Old Bay prior to serving.

Gluing Grief Together: The Art of Collage
Monday, May 20 @ 2pm

Collage comes from a French word meaning “to stick together.” Creating a collage after the death of a loved one is an active and creative way to access, process, and cope with your grief. We will use watercolors, magazine clippings, and other media. Emphasis will be placed on the process rather than the final product. Participants will be introduced to strategies for collaging photos or other personal items, and adaptations for children will be shared. All materials will be provided. Please register with JGodfrey@FourSeasonsCFL.org or 828-692-6178 (ask for Grief Services).
