FULLY BOOKED Kids Science: Balloon Blasters 03/12/2026 , 4:00 PM at PCPL Columbus Balloon Blasters: Build & Race Your Own Airships In this fast-paced, hands-on STEM adventure for kids in grades K-5, presented by Zaniac Learning, kids will design, build, and test their very own balloon-powered airships! As they race their creations down a track, they’ll discover how air pressure, propulsion, friction, and aerodynamics combine to create motion. Through playful experimentation and friendly competition, participants will develop creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills all while watching physics come to life. This program is now fully booked and on a waitlist. Registration is required and space is limited. Email jdickenson@polklibrary.org to sign up. Stearns Park StoryWalk 03/20/2026 , 12:00 AM at Stearns Park Check out the latest book in the Stearns Park StoryWalk®, The Hidden Rainbow by Christie Matheson! All the colors of the rainbow are hidden in the garden, but can the little bee find them—with help from the reader? Spring is brought to life in this interactive picture book about the natural world, and our place within it. The StoryWalk® begins at the playground and continues counter-clockwise on the path around the park. The Hidden Rainbow will be available to read starting March 20th, the first day of spring!

Columbus Library Join us for an educational program with the North Carolina Arboretum to learn all about the many different plants that call Western North Carolina their home! Ever wondered why some trees lose their leaves in the winter and others don’t? Or why almost all plants are green? At this program we’ll answer these questions and more. We’ll also make DIY plant presses together, go on a plant scavenger hunt, and venture outside to see what’s growing! Come ready to hear about the ecoEXPLORE program, find out what makes a plant a plant, how plants make their own food, where different plants can be found, plus much more! This program is designed for ages 5-13.
