For the love of the game
COLUMBUS, N. C., (February 13, 2020) Starting on Valentine’s Day, Polk County Public Libraries will have 14 board games available for checkout: The Resistance, Burger Up, Ticket to Ride, Exploding Kittens, Guillotine, Codenames, Kingdomino, King of Tokyo, Ice Cool, Machi Koro, Splendor, Guardians Call, Chunky Monkey Business, and Catan. Take one home this weekend and enjoy quality time with your significant other, friends, or family!
Lending board games within the Polk County community is a new way the libraries seek to provide resources and activities that encourage exploration of new ideas and personal interests. Most board games are explicitly designed to encourage face-to-face social interaction. Take a break from your devices and social media accounts and engage with each other across a table. Gaming builds teamwork, storytelling, planning, sportsmanship, reading comprehension, and an awareness of probability. And it’s fun!
There will also be a monthly board game demo night at Columbus Library. Join us on Thursday, March 19 at 6pm to learn the basics of Ticket to Ride. With dozens of international awards and over six million games sold, Ticket to Ride is one of the most popular modern board game series to date! Learn how to play this cross-country train adventure where players collect cards of various types of train cars that enable them to claim railway routes connecting cities in various countries around the world.
Polk County Public Libraries has two libraries, Columbus Library and Saluda Library, as well as outreach services. PCPL offers books, movies, music, audiobooks, and downloadable eBooks and audiobooks, as well as public computers and wireless internet access.
