Learn about singing insects at Saluda Library

SALUDA, N. C., (February 24, 2026) Learn about the most common singing insects on Tuesday, March 10th at 2pm at Saluda Library! We will discuss the function and mechanisms of sound production for insects such as crickets, katydids, and cicadas, with special reference to those in NC. We will also share species-specific songs that help you identify them and learn how the chorus in your backyard changes during the year. Presenter Tim Forrest is an Emeritus Professor of Biology at UNC-Asheville and has been studying and teaching about insect biology and behavior for over 40 years.

Please register for this event at conservingcarolina.org/calendar. The Saluda Library Speaker Series is held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 44 West Main Street, Saluda, NC. This program series began in 2024 thanks to a grant from the Polk County Community Foundation, and is now made possible due to the continued partnership between Polk County Public Libraries and Conserving Carolina.
