Blast off into A Universe of Stories this summer

COLUMBUS, N. C., (June 3, 2019) – Polk County Public Libraries encourages continued literacy for all throughout the summer with the annual Summer Reading Program. The theme for 2019 is “A Universe of Stories,” celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. On Wednesday, June 12, the program will kick off with a party at Stearns Park. There will be a bouncy house, crafts, astronaut ice cream, and storytime with special guests including county commissioner Tommy Melton, Saluda Town Manager Jon Cannon, Michael Crater with Polk County EMS, and Ronette Dill from Polk County Schools.

If you can’t make it to the kick-off party, come by Columbus or Saluda Library to sign up for the program starting June 10. All ages, including adults, can participate by completing activities on a challenge card. Kids and teens get a prize and pool party tickets (limited availability) for completing five challenges. All participants get entered to win amazing grand prizes, including gift certificates donated by generous local businesses: The Gorge Zipline, Green River Adventures, Wilderness Cove Tubing, Tryon Fine Arts Center, Hands On! Children’s Museum, Green River BBQ, Yoga at the Tree House, The Purple Onion, and The Ice Cream Barn.

Exciting programs are offered for kids (up to rising 5th graders) at Columbus Library on Wednesdays at 2pm and for teens (rising 6th-12th graders) at Columbus Library on Tuesdays at 2pm, starting the week of June 17. There will also be activities at Saluda Library on Mondays at 2pm. Highlights include B-Rad the Kids Magician at Columbus Library on June 26, Greenville Zoo’s Zoomobile at Saluda School auditorium on July 1, and the Soap Bubble Circus at Columbus Library on July 3.
