Historian Dennis Chastain to speak at Columbus Library

COLUMBUS, N. C., (October 28, 2024) Naturalist, writer, and historian Dennis Chastain will present “Historical Findings of Cherokee Living in the Carolinas” on Thursday, November 14th at 4pm at Columbus Library. Chastain is not a part of the Cherokee community, but will share knowledge from his 30 years of research.

The Cherokee people have lived in this area for thousands of years and are the aboriginal inhabitants and keepers of a vast geographic landscape covering parts of eight southeastern states. Learn about many aspects of the history and culture of the Cherokees, including how they constructed their houses and other structures and the foods they ate, including the story of corn and how it changed the lifestyles of all southeastern Native Americans.

Polk County Public Libraries has two libraries, Columbus Library and Saluda Library, with books, DVDs, music, audiobooks, and digital books available for checkout, as well as public computers and wireless internet access.
