Foothills Chess Club resumes at Columbus Library

COLUMBUS, N. C., (October 4, 2021) Checkmate! Foothills Chess Club has resumed meeting at Columbus Library on Saturdays from 12:30-3:45pm. Players of all ages and experience levels are welcome to join! Chess sets, boards, and clocks are available for use during club meetings.

Foothills Chess Club is led by Verl Martin, a local chess coach with over 25 years of experience teaching various ability levels. Verl’s experience includes organizing new chess programs for elementary schools in Atlanta, GA, before retiring to Polk County, and celebrating with his team after they successfully won several chess competitions. He has been involved with Foothills Chess Club for ten years and enjoys coaching new players.

Polk County Public Libraries has two libraries, Columbus Library and Saluda Library, with books, movies, music, audiobooks, and downloadable eBooks and audiobooks available for checkout, as well as public computers and wireless internet access.
