Local artist Lori Loftus displays works at Saluda Library

SALUDA, N. C., (October 7, 2022) A giant octopus and squid at Saluda Library? Yes, and more! A selection of works are on display by Saluda artist Lori Loftus through November 30th. Visit the library during opening hours to view the art, and contact the artist directly via her website at natureartistry.com if you are interested in purchasing any of the pieces.

Nature printing has been Lori’s artistic passion since joining the International Nature Printing Society in 2006. She uses flora, fauna, and other objects to create one-of-a-kind works of art. The various techniques incorporate fish, ferns, flowers, seaweed, leaves, and other marine life or objects in nature. This show is a collection of mostly marine life using the Japanese art form gyotaku (gyo=fish, taku=rubbing).

If you are interested in having your art displayed at Saluda Library, please review the Displays & Exhibits Policy at polklibrary.org/policies and contact Saluda Library Manager Bob McCall at 828-894-8721 x294 or bmccall@polklibrary.org.

Every year members of the Nature Printing Society get together for an annual weeklong workshop. In 2014, Lori found a dead baby blacktip shark just washed up on a beach in Florida. The frozen shark was taken to the next NPS workshop. Lori had it prepped and ready to print when she turned to her instructor, Mineo Yamamoto, and said “What color?” He exclaimed “Rainbow Shark!” and the resulting artwork can be seen in this show.
