Local Food Program Series at PCPL
COLUMBUS, N.C., (September 28, 2015) – Polk County Public Library is celebrating local food this fall! There will be four special events in October at the Main Library in Columbus.
The program series kicks off on Tuesday, October 6 at 5:30pm with a guided hike led by naturalist/forager Todd Elliott. Elliott will take attendees on a wander through the woods, looking at edible and medicinal plants and mushrooms on the nature trail behind the library. He will also share details and wild facts about the ecology and biodiversity of the Southern Appalachians.
Other events include making bucket gardens with the Polk County Agricultural Economic Development Office on October 13 at 5pm and a class about cooking with herbs with the Polk County Cooperative Extension on October 22 at 2pm. Advance registration for the cooking class is required; please contact Jimmi at 894-8218 or jimmi_buell@ncsu.edu to sign up. The Cookbook Club kick-off will be on October 27 and will allow for members to plan the book club schedule. The club will meet on the fourth Tuesday of every month at noon and bring a dish from a themed cookbook.
