Local artist Lori Loftus displays works at Saluda Library

SALUDA, N. C., (September 5, 2025) Giant octopus and squid at Saluda Library? Yes! Local artist Lori Loftus is displaying her nature printing there through October 18th. Come to a special reception on Friday, September 12th from 2-4pm to chat with the artist, view her work, and enjoy light refreshments.

Nature printing is Lori’s artistic passion. She uses flora, fauna, and other objects to create one-of-a-kind works of art. The various techniques incorporate fish, ferns, flowers, seaweed, leaves, and other marine life and objects in nature. This show is a collection of mostly marine life using the Japanese art form gyotaku. Gyotaku (fish rubbing) began in the 19th century and involves applying ink directly to a fish or other sea creature, placing paper over it, and then carefully pressing the paper to transfer the animal’s precise details onto the paper.
