August’s Spice: Garlic Salt

Garlic salt is delicious in stir-fries, sauces, casseroles, soups, stews, and marinades. It can also be used as a savory seasoning for meat, chicken, or seafood and makes a great base for dry rubs for barbecued ribs or steaks. Add garlic salt to dips, potatoes, vegetables, pasta, eggs, dressings, salsas, and more!

Recipe: Basil & Garlic Tortellini

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 package (8 ounces) cheese tortellini
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 package (8 ounces) sliced mushrooms
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 2 teaspoons basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

DIRECTIONS

  1. Cook tortellini as directed on package. Drain well.
  2. Meanwhile, heat oil in large skillet on medium-high heat. Add mushrooms; cook and stir 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in tomatoes, basil, garlic salt, and pepper. Bring to boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low; simmer 5 minutes.
  4. Add tortellini and cheese; toss to coat well. Sprinkle with additional cheese, if desired.
